New BABREES litter has arrived!! 6 Beautiful
puppies 4 dogs & 2 bitches!
It & Int Ch Velikaya's Lahatutan (Norby) X Babrees Bethea
Batyam (Beth)
This is Beth's first litter, the inbreeding CO efficiency was
calculated at 10% on 55 ancestors, which is reasonably low for
our breed and will hopefully go towards diversifying the genetic
pool somewhat. For more information on this litter please contact
Jill Terry. Or visit
the Babrees
Web Site to see the photos of the new arrivals.
On
Sunday the 2nd of December Jill Terry and I attended the very
first organised event for the Klee Kai in the UK. It was a very
interesting event and we were able to hear about the breed and
its origins and to see several examples of the three different
sizes and the two different coat types. Following the presentation
there was a parade of breeds which included many of the well
known as well as several of the rare breeds. Representing the
Canaan dog was Layla Me Shaar Hagai (Layla), Babrees The Cosmic
Spirit (Stella), And Tzel Schacmac Among Caoilta (Tzel). Even
though the hall was very crowded with dogs and people and was
extremely noisy the Canaans all behaved admirably and were wonderful
ambassadors for their breed.
Some canine party games followed the parade which included,
retrieve the sausage in one piece (Tzel's was swallowed before
even starting back to the finish line!), its a knockout and
musical mats. I was delighted when Tzel and I won the musical
mats competition. After the fun and games there was an exemption
show which was judged by respected judge and professional handler,
Michael Coad. We were absolutely delighted when, in extremely
large classes, Tzel won a third place in AV Non Sporting and
a second place in AV Open. It was a wonderful day with lots
of laughter and applause which gave the event a great fun atmosphere
and reminded us what dog showing SHOULD be about.
Tzel's
hip score result is 7/7.
I
am very honoured to have been asked to be the Canaan Dog breed
note correspondent for the ShowdogsUK
web site. Any news, views, show results and health test results
would be most welcome for inclusion in these notes.
Tzel
was hip scored on the 13/8/2001 and we are now awaiting the
results.

Powell's Babrees Bright Blaise (Kelsey) has been mated to Fin,
Nor, Int Ch Waltzun Romeo This mating has been carefully planned
since April 2000, it is hoped that this pairing will go some
way towards widening the very small gene pool in the UK as well
as producing puppies which are sound in both temperament and
conformation, as well as being true ambassadors for their breed,
and of the true "Collie" type as preferred by Professor
Menzel. Puppies are hoped for at the end of June 2001!

coming to the UK from Italy in May 2001.
